used on countless occasions the epithet of art in a lot of movies that are good avant-garde experimentation product developed on the presentation of all kinds of abnormalities.
Like many other directors little or no trade, Peter Greenaway believes that the eccentric is a desirable quality but also has sufficient expertise to complement this with marvelous dialogue, rich in intelligence and literary beauty, complex plots, unthinkable and misleading, and actions that are more than enough credibility.
The universe created for this film is a strange mixture of scenarios, roles, costumes, characters or situations. The central plot points to a sort of sixteenth-century English village or XVI where misfortune has fallen and the land has become barren. After a miraculous birth, the situation changes dramatically and the resurgent prosperity, but this is the perception of the masses.
argument is not particularly attractive, but the execution is superb. First of all, how to develop the plot is quite confusing: the viewer suddenly finds himself in a play itself. Greenaway includes choir, as Greek-style, spectators, players trying to get a role, tableaux various overlapping, change of clothes ... it is a representation into another representation where one can hardly perceive what is actually reality and the actors seem catch it. Varied and deep
build issues by parliaments. It is the goal to talk about God, faith and skepticism, for example, but the verbal structures that actors have a charge utter philosophical merit. It also represents a broad and scathing criticism of the clergy from the use utility that gives the disposal of the faithful. For Finally, as a complementary tool, it resorts to violence, sometimes rather crude, in order to shake the viewer because you could easily miss withdraw and pursue the ideas in the constructive dialogue.
